How to show your support for free thru Apple, Google Play!

Recently I was looking into the statistics of my radio station apps in order to decide which station(s) were doing well and which ones could use a marketing injection. When looking at the Apple Developers platform I came across an often overlooked statement that Apple publishes.

We only collect usage data from users who have agreed to share their diagnostics and usage information with app developers. This data includes Installations, Sessions, Active Devices.

After reading this and looking at the research for our stations and shows I decided I had to reach out to my listeners (and my broadcast affiliates) and make them aware of this because this could truly change the game for us. If we could get our listeners to agree to share their data with Apple and Google when they download our apps we would get more exposure from those that use Apple or Google research in their spending decisions. Being one that does not like to share anything on my electronic devices I knew it would be an uphill challenge so I decided to start by explaining it in simple terms for all.

When you download an app you may be asked to allow Apple (or Google) to collect data regarding which app you have downloaded, did it crash, how long you were using the app. etc. From my understanding they do not collect any personal information, only app related information. If you truly want to show support for OUR STATIONS, affiliates or any of the apps you use you should allow them to collect this data.

I know it would help us because if we have an app that crashes we want to fix it. We also want to know who is listening and where you are so we can bring entertaining and educational events to your area. So the next time you download an app remember it’s ok to let them collect data about how you use the app.
